Hello All - I just received my new Vespa 250 GTS last week and am still figuring out the beautiful machine...

I feel silly - but I don't know how to set the clock!

Also - is there an "easy" way to get the Vespa on it's centre stand? I'm a thin-ish girl and am having problems getting the vespa on it's stand.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome! I'm another new GTS owner.

Clock: Check the owners manual, it gives simple instructions.

Centerstand: While standing on left side, hold left handlebar with left hand. With your right hand grab the rear rack. While stablizing the bike like that, press down on the side stand with your foot to the ground. If you gently rock the bike back an forth (side to side), you will feel the centerstand when it evenly touches both points where it hits ground. Press down firmly with your foot. Put most of the effort in your foot movement and if you are really light pull forward and up just a bit with the rack. It should pop right up.

Wow, you're more "manly" than me with your 250!!!

I don't think it'll be "easy" for you to get it up. Maybe try rocking it back and forth slightly to give you some momentum??? Practice, evenatually you'll get it.

The clock was kind of tricky and the owner's manual wasn't very helpful at all!
It's a combo of holding down both buttons and pressing one of them while holding the other.

LOL

I'm not sure about "manly" but with my right leg muscles are beginning to strain under the scooter's weight. LoL...

Can't be shy about it... >>

The trick to putting one up on the centerstand is to be decisive. You have to generate some momentum, so the push down on the footpeg has to be done with authority. Like the other post said, grab the left handle bar and the grab rail behind the seat, hold steady, and once you've got the slack out of the footpeg, push down HARD. You'll get the knack, just don't be bashful.

As an aside, the tendency to hold the rear brake lever must be overcome because it prevents the scooter from moving and it must move a bit to allow the stand to be extended and locked by the scooter's weight.

Every time I find myself fighting the stand it is because I have inadvertently applied the brake and locked the rear wheel. DUH!

Welcome fellow Canuck scooter-er.

I don't know 'bout these other GTS owners, but I too couldn't find any mention of how to set the clock in my owner's manual. My clock was off by 12 hours as set by the dealer.

You'll note that pressing the Clock button switches between showing the time and showing the date. The goal is to press and hold both the Clock and Set buttons while the time is showing. (So, press Clock once to switch to the date, then press and hold Clock and Set.)

After 3 seconds the hour will start to flash, and then pressing the Set button with advance the hour. Then press the Clock button again to make the minutes flash, and advance the minutes by pressing the Set button.

One more tap of the Clock button and you're done.

Now, there's a chance I mixed up the two (i.e. you press the Set button to advance numbers and the Clock button to switch to the next thing). If so, you'll get it on your second try.

As for the centre (yes, centRE ) stand, I stand to the left of the GTS and prefer to grip both handlebars as well as placing my right foot on the centre stand. Then, I step down firmly but smoothly on the centre stand while pulling back lightly on the handlebars.

I resist the urge to say "upsy daisy" when I do this. Usually.

I suspect this is much easier for us not so thin-ish guys than you thin-ish gals. The trick is to get enough "oomph" on to your step -- reallly put your weight on to it.

It's more knack than muscle power.I'm really weedy, and amaze people, lugging this huge bike around.. .It's more to do with the foot pressing on the stand, than hauling the bike back.

center stand

You'll get used to it and at soem point be able to do it with out thinking. here is what I do, Standing on the left side of bike, Facing mostly forward, Left hand on left hand grip, right hand on chrom bar next to seat, right foot on the peg for the center stand, just stand up or straighten my right foot and it just pops back onto the center stand. You can rock it a bit and you'll know if it's on both sides.

You'll learn to judget the distance from the curb. if your too close to the curb it won't be totally on the stand.

hope that helps.

Yes, and one thing more: having the right hand closer to the seat makes it easier, it can be a big difference, so grab it as close to the seat as possible and lift it up at the same time you push the centre stand down.

Carrington,
Thanks, I couldn't find anything in my owner's manual either for the clock.
Now it's set!

Although I have no trouble getting mine on the center stand (I weigh 200), I rarely use it. Rather I use the side stand. Also, when I do use the center stand, I 1st put the side stand down, and then position the scooter to raise in on the stand. Just easier that way for me.

Make sure you come of the brake when rocking the scooter onto the centre stand, fairly obvious I know but I've seen it being done.

On total miles / kilometre press and hold mode button and then you can alter clock

A little bit of a lift (pull up and back ) with the right hand helps as well...as you roll it back, kick the stand down and push down with the foot.

Its mostly about timing and using the momentum ...and if its hard/heavy...you have not got the technique right. A bit of practice goes a long way.

Maybe practice with someone on the other side...just in case the balance goes over! No matter how strong or big you are..if it goes away from you..it will be unstoppable.

I just replaced my battery; it takes a 386, fairly common watch battery (got mine at Walgreens.)

BUT it is a PITA to replace!

MC thanks. I know, that's why i'll let the shop to do it. They have this kid who works there who hits You Tube when he doesn't know something. This will be right up his alley. 8)

I'm curious what it will cost to have a shop do it (even the 'tire change kid'). Have you a quote yet?

MC they charge $25 a hour. Do mopeds mostly but the head mechanic and a young kid love my Vespa. Frank the head one, worked on the older ones and a bunch of the newer ones. Aaron the kid loves it and is a You Tube fan. For 20 he is great with a wrench. They have to open up the headset anyway. My hi-low beam switch doesn't work. My lights are on High all the time. So i'm replacing it and will do the kill switch while their in there. Will ask them how long it took when i get it done in a few weeks. Need to find a battery first. Plus i want to be at 40,000 mile when i do it. Want to give the LX some new parts for getting me to 40,000. I would wait until you have to change something else in the headset. Makes sense to do things at once in a area.

Wow! $25 an hour is a steal! I'd have paid a shop that to replace my battery I guess (except I really wanted to see how hard it would be .) And since they will be in yours to do other stuff, it will be well worth it.

You are doing triple posts - a new record. You might look at some of your recent posts and remove the duplicates/triplicates.

[edit] I've deleted the repeats. Again. (jimc)
